About
I have been especially involved in understanding the various perspectives of people living in France during the early forties (partly through numerous interviews with individuals from that generation) as well as developing materials related to the period of decolonization that followed the war. I strongly believe in opening students' minds to different perspectives and encouraging them to think critically (with an emphasis on cultural and historical relativity).
Having studied in Aix-en-Provence and worked in France in varying capacities (teaching in a middle school and high school in Grenoble and working with disadvantaged children in Lille), I am very familiar with the challenges and rewards of living and studying abroad as well as directing a program (I implemented and directed the summer program in Grenoble, France in 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019). I also taught French 232 in Aix-en-Provence in 2022 and 2024 (For more details, read this faculty feature.) Since I believe that study or work abroad should be an integral part of a liberal arts education, I strive to help students find a program that suits their interests and goals.
