Doctoral Candidate
About
After graduating with a BA in Filmmaking and Audiovisual Studies from l’ Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts, Tanite worked in the television industry in Beirut, Lebanon. Becoming a firsthand witness to performativity and the biopolitics of the image, she decided to further her studies in the latter by completing her MA in English Literature at the American University of Beirut.
Tanite is particularly interested in 1950’s melodramas, retracing the evolution of gender norms, highlighting both the harmony and discordance between Hollywood and its said Middle Eastern counterpart at the time, Egypt.
As a filmmaker, she continues to work on her own short movies, either to complement her topics of studies or just to let out some creative steam.
