About
Oğuz Kayır is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Film, Television, and Media. His research examines how feminist media artists are engaging with embodiment and aesthetics in the wake of state-sanctioned violence and authoritarianism in contemporary Turkey. More precisely, he is interested in how artists are attending to the body and its materiality in ways that release tension or enact forms of healing. For his doctoral research, he received support from the Rackham Graduate School, the International Institute, and the Center for Middle Eastern and North African Studies. His work has been published in Art History, MIRAJ, and Journal of Visual Culture.
He holds dual B.A. degrees in Film and Media from Istanbul Bilgi University and an M.A. degree in Media and Visual Studies at Bilkent University in Ankara. Alongside his scholarly endeavors, he held several positions, including the curatorial program lead at the Digital Studies Institute arts initiative Search Engines, project assistant at the Istanbul-based educational non-profit AÇEV, and an editorial internship at the Turkish newspaper Radikal.
