About
Grey Mangan’s research explores the complex relationship between fandom and media industries with a particular focus on queer fans, ideas of place/space-making, play, affect theory, and the interplay of the digital and the material. His master’s thesis was on the ephemeral nature of digital fan archives, degradation of the Web 1.0 Internet, and efforts to preserve them. His current research projects revolve around ethnographic research on place, space, play and affect in physical fan spaces- and how queer fans maneuver, shape, and construct these spaces and communities. It’s the intricate nature of these ever-evolving communities that keep him coming back to the archive and fan spaces for more. In his free time, Grey enjoys spending time with his fiance and watching 3+ hour video essays.
