Tastemaker International: Ira Deutchman and the Art & Business of Independent Cinema
Tastemaker International is scheduled for Monday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 6, 2017, in the Hatcher Graduate Library Gallery on Monday and in The Michigan Theater on Tuesday.
Our guest of honor is Ira Deutchman, who has placed his papers with the Mavericks & Makers collection. Deutchman has played a significant role in the distribution and marketing of many, many films throughout his career. He has worked with fellow mavericks Robert Altman, John Sayles, Alan Rudolph and Nancy Savoca as well as many noted filmmakers including Jonathan Demme, Jan Campion, Gus Van Sant, and Derek Jarman. Nancy Savoca and Whit Stillman will be present to talk about their experience working with him. Deutchman has also been a producer and was the Chair for many years of the Columbia University School of the Arts.

The Hatcher Graduate Library will also be running an exhibit from June 2 - July 30, 2017, entitled "Ira Deutchman: A Commitment to Specialty Films" in the Library Gallery.
