This special evening of screenings, guest speakers and tributes marks the 125th anniversary of the first public exhibition of Edison’s Vitascope at Koster and Bial’s Music Hall on 34th Street in New York City on April 23, 1896. On April 23, 2021, Briand Gentry will be one of many presenting a short tribute and commentary on Edison's kinetoscope and vitagraph films that would have been popularly circulated around the time of this historic date in film history. Gentry's tribute will include a brief discussion of the 1895 film Annie Oakley, made by the Edison Manufacturing Co., which features the first extant filmed images of Annie Oakley demonstrating her sharp shooting rifle tricks.
