Oliver Thornton's Latest Documentary "A New Day in Detroit" to Air After Tigers Games
How do you rebuild America's greatest sports city? Over the course of an hour-long program, A New Day in Detroit will look at the positive affect investment in a downtown sports district - the only one like it in America - is having on the revitalization of Detroit. It’s the story of the struggle to recapture the hard work, optimism, and innovation that once made Detroit home to both the places everyone wanted to live, and the teams that everyone wanted to play for.
Narrated by Academy-Award winning actor and Detroit native, J.K.Simmons, the show features interviews with major players in the downtown sports district, including Chris Ilitch, president and CEO of Ilitch Holdings Inc.; Arn Tellem, vice chairman of Palace Sports & Entertainment; Tom Wilson, president and CEO of Olympia Entertainment; Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander; and Detroit Chief of Police James Craig.
A New Day In Detroit, co-produced with FTVM grad Alex Wright ('99) and co-written with Alex and FTVM grad James Graessle ('12), premiered on April 28, 2017, after Tigers Live on Fox Sports Detroit. It will continue to air throughout the season.
