As part of the ARTHEMIS lecture series at Concordia in Montreal, Professor Herbert gave a talk on Friday November 7, 2014.  The title of his talk was "On Film School and the Strip Mall: Video, Video Stores, and the Thresholds of Cinematic Knowledge."  In it, Professor Herbert examined what the pedagogical function of video stores has been historically and, drawing on new research, looked at several case studies of video stores that have made overt claims of serving educational purposes.
