Donning a stunning peacock-colored gown, FTVM student Zaineb Abdul-Nabi and her fellow Team Oscar winners spoke onstage and presented Oscars at the 86th Annual Academy Awards Show at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.
Zaineb was one of six students selected nation-wide to join Team Oscar, a student film and essay competition created by the Academy. Along with joining Oscar host Ellen DeGeneres onstage and delivering Oscars to celebrity presenters, Zaineb was also treated to exciting industry experiences including a visit to the Academy’s famous collections at the Margaret Herrick Library, studio tours, and meet and greets with filmmakers.
In an interview with the Toledo Free Press, Zaineb said she really looked forward to the library visit, “I know this sounds really nerdy,” she said. “I’m just really excited to learn about the history of the Academy and really see how they preserve films and not only the medium itself, but how they preserve the history of film.”
However, Zaineb is not the first FTVM student to be chosen by the Academy. Last year, FTVM alumnus Perry Janes won the silver medal at the Student Academy Awards in the alternative category for his short film Zug.
Congratulations to our talented students!
