Cierra Leggs is a senior from Detroit, MI studying Film, Television, and Media. I really enjoy coming-of-age stories and rom-coms. My favorite movie is The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and my favorite TV show is Abbott Elementary because I originally wanted to study Elementary Education. Outside of school, I am a Video Editor for Film Review, which, created in 1944, is the world’s longest-running film review annual. In addition, I am the current Assistant Director for a student-led documentary that focuses on highlighting the multidimensionality of the Black experience at the University of Michigan. I plan to go to grad school next Fall semester to continue my research in cinema and media studies. I am interested in the effect social media has had on different aspects of the film industry, as well as the different kinds of Black representation in the media. I am happy for the opportunity to be a Mitchell Scholar and can’t wait to engage with other scholars, as well as attend future events!
