On-Campus Community Partner Programs

 

FEMMES
Through engaging, hands-on activities presented in a fun and supportive environment, FEMMES programs encourage girls to learn and explore their potential in science, technology, math, and engineering (STEM). Our goal is to promote involvement in STEM by building curiosity and increasing confidence in girls' academic skills so they can pursue their dreams without hesitation.

Grad-school Readiness Experience and After Training workshop (G.R.EA.T.): Workshop designed to mentor and inform diverse students about the graduate application process, life in grad school and career opportunities after grad school

Michigan Institute for Research in Astrophysics (MIRA)

MIRA was founded by Physics, Astronomy, CLASP and members of Earth & Environmental Sciences have been active since then. MIRA aims to assemble and support talent in astrophysics at University of Michigan. Part of their goal is to nurture diversity within the field, and they run a DEI-focused seminar series.

M-Sci
M-Sci is a two year program for UM students that focuses on strengthening skills for  students interested in mathematics and science. The program begins with a summer session and then two years of activities including participating in lab research, leading peer-study groups, attending social/cultural events, increasing their academic performance through comprehensive courses/seminars, and participating in career/community driven activities.

NextProf Science Workshop 

The NextProf Science Workshop is designed to encourage talented scientists and mathematicians with a demonstrated commitment to diversity to consider academia — an exciting and rewarding career. The program helps future faculty develop strategies and materials to pursue an academic career. Travel, lodging, and meals are provided. Each May, our department hosts ~5 graduate students and postdocs in Earth and Environmental Sciences. For more information, contact Becky Lange.

Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP)
The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program creates research partnerships between first/second year undergraduate students and University of Michigan researchers.  Student researchers are able to create and research a scientific project, later presenting their results in a student-research exhibition.
