In the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, we prepare students for a wide range of next steps and careers. You can help students navigate these transitions in so many ways. GeoClub, the Alumni Advisory Board, and individual alums are working together to identify how alumni can work with the next generation of EARTH alumni. Please reach out to michigan-earth@umich.edu if you’d like to get involved.
EARTH UCAN (University Career Alumni Network) Group
As part of an effort to increase alumni engagement with students, EARTH has created a quickly-growing University Career Alumni Network (UCAN) group. UCAN enables students to connect with alumni like you for tips and advice on career-related topics. Your insights are invaluable, and your understanding of the Michigan student experience makes you uniquely qualified to share your insights.
The EARTH group within UCAN will be the central hub for student-alumni engagement moving forward. Participation is easy! Please follow the directions below to sign up:
- Please create a UCAN profile through this link by following the prompts. We recommend using your Linkedin profile to get started. If you already have an account, simply sign in.
- Please make sure your profile information is filled out. Specifically, we ask you to pay attention to the following: (1) We encourage you to write a short description of your career path under the “About” section, (2) Update your “Topics of interest” and “Industries”, and (3) Complete the question: “In addition to mentoring, I am happy to help with…”
- Navigate to the EARTH group page using this link, or search for it under the “Groups” tab.
- Press the green “Join” button on the upper right, and fill out the questions. The button should change to “Pending Approval,” and you will receive an email once you are approved.
Through UCAN, you can reach students looking for advice on topics such as applying to graduate school, industry trends, networking advice, career pathways, work/life balance, making the most of their Michigan experience, and much more. We also plan to facilitate structured discussions through the group’s discussion board feature.
