Our department takes great pride in sharing that U-M Sociology Graduate Student, Joyce Ho, has been selected as a recipient of the Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant from the American Sociological Association (the grant is also known as the ASA DDRIG).

Joyce received the ASA DDRIG in support of her dissertation project, "Private Property Under the Climate Crisis," which examines how climate disasters transform the liberal regime of private property in the United States as they regularly destroy large swaths of property.

Since 2021, the University of Michigan has been the only school represented with at least one ASA DDRIG Research Scholar every year. This serves as a testament to the U-M Department of Sociology’s commitment to excellence as its students and faculty continue to be recognized on the national level.
