AWARD PRIZE: UP TO $1,000
Established in 2008 by Hubert and Ellen Cohen, The Hubert and Ellen Cohen Film Essay Award will honor the best undergraduate scholarly essay(s), a minimum of 15 pages in length, on film or television history, criticism, or theory. Though submissions should not be papers written directly for course work, they may be papers with provenance and early treatment in a previous paper, including for a course. Submissions can be writing done for an Honors thesis. The award will be made at the end of the winter semester, and can be given to more than one worthy essay. The award need not be offered every year if the entries are not exceptional.
To compete for this award, you should submit the following:
(a) A completed online application form including the name of a faculty reference in the Department of Film, Television, and Media with whom you have worked.
(b) Upload one copy of the essay to Dropbox.
The committee may elect to not make an award if no suitable applications are submitted.
If a choice must be made between applications of equal merit, priority will be given to the proposal submitted by an applicant who has not received funds during the previous grant cycle.
