Garnet R. Garrison Scholarship for Honors
Established in 1978 on the occasion of Professor Garrison’s retirement, the scholarship was the result of endowment gifts from his former students and colleagues at the University of Michigan. At the recommendation of Professor Garrison, this award is for Senior Honors candidates to help defray the cost of preparing the Honors thesis – either research costs or the costs of a creative production project or screenplay.
Award Amount: Up to $2,000.00
Eligibility: FTVM Honors Students
Award Criteria:
1) Merit of proposed project
2) Quality of sample work submitted
3) Presentation and completeness of the application
Application Process:
1) Submit a completed online application form.
2) Upload the required documents to Dropbox, ensuring that each of your uploaded files is labeled with your first and last name.
For production projects, please submit the following:
• a one-page treatment for a new project or a work-in-progress
• the script, if available
• Two work samples. Sample clips must be compressed to no larger than 1 GB per applicant. Moving image files
should be compressed as .mp4.
• a budget detailing expenses (see Budget Guidelines and sample budget).
• a PDF file of your unofficial transcript
For screenwriting proposals, please submit the following:
• a one-page treatment detailing the proposed script’s plot, approach, theme, major characters, length, etc.
• a writing sample demonstrating that the applicant understands the conventions of screenwriting
• a budget detailing expenses (see Budget Guidelines and sample budget).
• a PDF file of your unofficial transcript
For studies projects, please submit the following:
• a proposal that includes a description or outline of the project
• a preliminary bibliography
• a sample of academic work
• a budget detailing expenses (see Budget Guidelines and sample budget).

The committee may elect to not make an award if no suitable applications are submitted.
If a choice must be made between applications of equal merit, priority will be given to the proposal submitted by an applicant who has not received funds during the previous grant cycle.
