About
After receiving an Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering from Washtenaw Community College, Alan was hired in 1972 as Studio Engineer for the Audio-Visual Education Center of the U of M. Alan’s primary responsibly was the Center’s Film Studio and Film Production Unit as Sound Recordist, Sound Editor and Mixing Engineer. The Film Unit had a close relation to the University’s film students, providing technical services and consultation for their films. In 1979, Alan joined the engineering staff of the Michigan Media Resources Center in the newly built television studios in the former Argus Camera Factory. Alan switched from Film/Television to be Service Manager of the University’s Computer Repair Service in 1984. Alan missed his connection to media production and film students so, in 1987, he accepted a position in the Communication Department as Lecturer in New Technologies, co-teaching classes in Film and Television Production. In 1996, production classes were all consolidated into the Film/Video Program, now FTVM. Alan followed as Media Consultant, organizing and expanding the equipment loan service and teaching technical workshops in media production. He Continues a strong interest in the student’s productions while managing FTVM’s facilities in the North Quad..
