Marin Clark discusses recent catastrophic flash floods in Nepal with Michigan News, including potential causes and repercussions as well as the role climate change plays in frequency and severity of natural disasters. Clark notes that while evidence points to a seismic-induced glacier collapse in the headwaters of the Bhote Koshi–Trishuli river system, the exact nature of this event remains under investigation.

Furthermore, Clark emphasizes the importance of understanding the connection between events when studying cascading natural hazard events. “We need better ways of seeing the long game. Understanding how one hazard connects to another gives us better predictive tools to make more resilient societies,” Clark told Morgan Sherburne with Michigan News.
