Steve received his B.S. degree in Geology from Juniata College in 1972. After four years in the coal industry, he received a M.S. degree in Geology from The University of Michigan in 1978. He joined Shell Oil Company later that year. During his thirty-year career with Shell, he held numerous individual contributor and leadership positions, having lived twenty years in New Orleans, La. and ten years in Houston, Texas.
He was involved with field development and appraisal activities from the Rocky Mountains to the U.S. Gulf coast, Shelf and Deepwater areas of the Gulf of Mexico and Cameroon, Africa. In his last assignment as Regional Geology Discipline Advisor, Shell’s EP Americas Region, he was involved with appraisal and development activities of new discoveries and producing fields in the lower U.S. 48 states, Alaska, the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico, offshore Canada and offshore Brazil. He was responsible for technical quality, assurance and staff deployment of a large portion of Shell’s U.S. Geology staff.
He has been an active new graduate and experienced staff recruiter for many years, including Manager of Shell’s Geosciences recruiting Team at The University of Michigan. Steve retired from Shell in 2008. He and his wife Cynthia live in Magnolia, Texas where he spends time golfing, hunting, fishing, traveling and with grandchildren, and working as a consulting oil and gas geologist on a part time basis.
