Peer Advisors

Prospective majors are encouraged to meet with our peer advisors to learn more about the major, its requirements and various opportunities at the department. 

For virtual meetings please email comm.peeradvisor@umich.edu to set up the appoinment. 

Brooklyn Blevins is a Senior pursuing a B.A. in Communication and Media, and a minor in Community Action and Social Change. She loves reading, making playlists, and trying new foods, and is on the board of U-M's SHEI magazine as the Editor in Cheif. Brooklyn's favorite Comm class is COMM 306: Whiteness in the Media.

 

Sreya Sista is a Senior pursuing a B.A. in Communication and Media, as well as a minor in French and Francophone Studies. Outside of school, Sreya enjoys being outdoors, discovering new movies, and journaling, and is very active in the student organization Le Comité Francophone, and the Kappa Phi Lambda sorority. Sreya's favorite Comm class thus far is COMM 340: Gender and the Media.

 

Department Advisors
U-M students and transfer students Communication and Media majors are encouraged to schedule an appointment with department advisor Sofia Carlsson, or faculty advisors Jimmy Draper or Henry Seeger through the online appointment system. Students and prospective students are encouraged to meet with a department advisor early in their academic career to plan and discuss their academic goals. It is helpful to meet with a department advisor no later than the first semester of your sophomore year.Appointments for current U-M students are made by clicking on the "Schedule an Advising Appointment" button below. Note that major advising is not available during the month of July.

Virtual Advising Appointments

To schedule a virtual advising appointment, simply use the online calendar and choose "virtual" as the format for the meeting. Follow the link in the confirmation email to meet with your advisor. The advisor will admit you from a virtual waiting room at the time of your appointment. 

You can also schedule a phone appointment if that works better for you. Your advisor will call you at the number you submit when making the appointment. 

Sometimes advising appointments can be complicated and go over the allotted time. Please allow for a five minute delay 

Non- and prospective U-M students (high school students and prospective transfer students) may email commadvisor@umich.edu to discuss the Communication and Media prerequisite courses and major requirements. If you plan to attend a campus tour and would like to meet with a peer- or department advisor, please email commadvisor@umich.edu with your name, e-mail address and contact telephone number. 

The online appointment system offers the following options:
