Departmental Funding

The Department of Communication and Media solicits applications for academic awards for fall, winter and summer terms. Declared Communication and Media majors with at least junior standing may apply for departmental awards. Award criteria and application requirements vary for each award. Applicants should refer to the award instructions and application for the appropriate term for details. Award amounts are subject to availability and may change each term.

Federal Guidelines - Please Read

Receipts of funds/awards could impact a student's financial aid package.

Due to Federal Guidelines, except for wages from employment, funds provided to a student receiving federal financial aid will count against their financial aid award package regardless of whether the student is enrolled during the term in which the funding is provided. If your total financial aid, including any new offers, exceeds your eligibility for financial assistance during the academic year, your aid may be limited in a future term or reduced from previously received assitance.

Given the potential for impact on a student's financial aid package, before providing financial support, the department will consult with the student, the Office of Financial Aid, and/or the LSA Scholarship Office.

It is important to note that if a student has financial aid this does not prohibit the student from applying for an award. Financial aid status will not be part of the review process. Once a student is selected, the department will work with the Office of Financial Aid and/or the LSA Scholarship Office to determine how the award can be provided.

You can learn more about financial aid terms and conditions on the Office of Financial Aid's website. If you have questions or want to consult with someone about your particular situation, please contact OFA.
