Direct support for the process of creating a digital project in the humanities and qualitative social sciences. This service provides expert advice for each phase of the project lifecycle and also provides limited resources and capacities for completing technical work. Digital projects range from online exhibits to digital storytelling. Sometimes they involve maps, timelines, or video.
We take a human and process oriented approach to project support. This means that we’ll start with questions to help us understand your research or project goals and objectives. From there we’ll learn more about what people should be able to do when they interact with the end result of the project and what sort of “things” that need to be in place for that to happen. We will often help think through which high-level tasks are needed to get this done, as well as trying to conceptualize the project scope in the context of versions and releases, so you can avoid the trap of the never-complete-digital project. Along the way we’ll likely connect you with other support partners or resources from across campus (including our partners at U-M Library).
For the 2021/2022 Digital Project Partnership, LSA Technology Services has combined efforts with U-M Library and the National Center for Institutional Diversity’s Anti-Racism Collaborative to provide the Anti-Racist Digital Research Initiative; a mini-grant program that supports early-stage digital scholarship projects that advance anti-racism and social justice in the humanities, arts, and humanistic social sciences. ScholarSprints offer U-M faculty, instructors, graduate students and fellows the opportunity to partner with a team of support partner experts on a component of a broader project. Successful applicants are awarded an intensive set of consultations with a team of experts, hand picked from across the University. Watch for opportunities to apply for the next ScholarSprints.
Our consultations typically take one two forms: basic or extended.
We’ll help you explore examples and available resources to help discover what is possible. Work with you to conceptualize a project, aligning outcomes and deliverables with your research goals.
A series of consultation sessions aimed at helping you get started with your research project. This will likely include bringing in more support partners from the rest of LSA TS and/or U-M Library. Consultation topics can range from grant proposal support, data management or workflow planning, to technical and information architecture, or helping think through sustainability, accessibility, and preservation issues.
