WHAT IS A CAREER TREK?
Career Treks are an opportunity for LSA students to experientially learn about different companies and organizations by visiting their offices or headquarters. These company-site visits are designed to give LSA students a 360° overview of a particular company or organization: learn about the culture, ask questions of current employees, find out about career pathways or succession tracks that can help new hires grow within the organization. “Treks” can range from one to three days depending on the location.
THE BENEFITS OF CAREER TREKS
Participating in a Career Trek will give you a chance to:
- Get a practical understanding of daily work life at the company
- Learn about the company’s recruiting process for internships or jobs
- Find what specific companies are looking for in an ideal candidate
- Build relationships with professionals at companies of interest to you
- Gain insight on whether a particular career field matches your interests, skills, and values
HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR A CAREER TREK?
In order to sign up for a Job Shadow opportunity, students must submit an application on LSA Engage. Visit the Events tab in order to explore available opportunities. The application may include the following:
- A Written Response (500 words or less on the following…..)
- Current Resume
- Transcript from the previous Academic Year
As students are submitting their application, they will also have the opportunity to rank organizations and companies based on their preference for Career Trek placement.
Please note: placement for Career Trek opportunities will be determined based on alignment of your academic year and major as well as the recruiting needs of the employer. As these opportunities change every year, details on which companies are participating this academic year are available in the application.
