We prioritize mentorship at the Hub because of its authenticity. Who better to help LSA students make meaning of their experiences than those who once walked in their shoes? Regardless of whether it’s been two or twenty years since you graduated, you have something that students don’t yet have: expertise and perspective. By volunteering to be a mentor, you can support students as they consider their futures as graduate students, post-docs, job-seekers, change agents, global leaders, and professionals.
There are two ways you can mentor:
- Flash mentorship through LSA Connect, the college’s online career mentoring platform, where students reach out to gain confidence in activating the alum network.
- Serve as a one-on-one mentor in a structured, multi-month cohort through the LSA Mentorship Program.
The time is now to join LSA Connect
LSA Connect is the most meaningful way for alums like yourself to give back to LSA students. By joining, you become part of an integral mission to provide LSA students with access to social and cultural capital through purposeful connections and enriching conversations. The LSA Community spans majors, industries, identities and experiences, and this unique platform brings Wolverines together from across the globe.
As an alum mentor, you decide how to shape your impact. Adjust your availability to connect with just one or more students per month, the freedom is yours. And no matter where you are in the world, you can still participate and remain connected to the LSA community.
But the benefits also extend back to alums. You can grow your own network by connecting with other LSA alums on the platform.
Be part of the LSA Mentorship Program
Get to know an individual student on a deeper level and offer support as they work to discover the myriads of possibilities in the liberal arts and sciences. Help them narrow down career pathways of interest. Students may want to know more about your industry, or about career exploration more broadly, in a one-on-one relationship.
The LSA Mentorship Program was launched to provide a structured, extended relationship between pairings of alums and LSA students over the course of a typical school year.
Mentors are expected to:
- Guide students in their professional development and career trajectories by sharing your advice and expertise
- Commit to a regular cadence of meetings with your mentee over the course of the program
- Attend a virtual networking event at the conclusion of the program
How can I get started?
