PhD Candidate Olawale Akingbade recently presented at the Konstanz Linguistics Conference (KLC), in Konstanz, Germany. His presentation was titled “Tone behavior of Oloma noun phrase”. This talk investigates the relationship between the lexicon and syntax, finding that the tonal pattern of Oloma noun phrases is determined by their syntactic role rather than by the tones associated with individual lexical items. The work forms part of Olawale’s PhD research, and is based on fieldwork on Oloma and Akuku, two under-described Edoid languages, spoken in small communities in Edo State, Nigeria. The abstract of Olawale’s talk is available in the conference’s book of abstracts.
