Linguistics Peer Mentors

Peer Mentors are upper-level Linguistics students who support their peers through:

  • Increasing awareness of the Linguistics major on campus
  • Assisting undeclared students explore whether or not Linguistics is a good fit
  • Creating a sense of community among declared Linguistics students
  • Offering guidance on schedule planning and registration
  • Promoting involvement in Linguistics clubs, and Linguistics adjacent clubs on campus
  • Sharing strategies to support their peers in time management and study skills
  • Providing a student perspective with their peers on specific LING courses and opportunities such as research and study abroad.

Peer Mentor Advising

  1. Linguistics Peer Mentors will offer in-person, virtual, or phone advising throughout the Fall and Winter semesters. Students will have the ability to select their preferred format when scheduling. Walk-in appointments are welcomed.
  2. Students are expected to arrive a maximum of 5 minutes prior to the start of their appointment and must wait in designated areas. If a student has not checked in 10 minutes after their appointment slot, the appointment will be cancelled.
