Laura Aull, Professor of English and Linguistics, recently published an article titled “What’s Grammar Got to Do with It? Judging Less and Learning More in Encounters with Written English Variation” in the journal College English. In this article, Professor Aull argues for a change in how we engage with written English. She argues that, rather than sticking to a narrow set of prescriptive rules, we should instead focus on the varied choices available to writers within the grammatical system of English.
