Linguistics Ph.D. student Daniel Morales was featured in the Spring 2026 edition of LSA Magazine, the alumni magazine of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at U-M. Daniel was quoted in an article titled “A Living Language,” which spotlights the learners and instructors of Nahuatl at U-M. In this article, he reflects on the value of having Nahuatl offered as a language, saying “There is merit for people without Mexican heritage to learn this language because you can get a broader understanding of what Mexico is and who is in Mexico.” Daniel’s own Ph.D. research focuses on word constituency order and the non-syntactic factors that affect it in colonial and modern Nahuatl languages.
