Cherry Meyer

Dr. Meyer was one of seven U-M faculty members who have been recognized by this esteemed fellowship, which supports anti-racism scholarship at U-M. The Research & Community Impact Faculty Fellowship aims to “successfully advance [scholars] in the tenure and promotion process while concurrently supporting their efforts to utilize their expertise to fight systemic racism through policy advocacy, practice, teaching, and/or community partnerships.”

This fellowship supports Dr. Meyer’s research titled State-level Laws Mandating the Inclusion of Local Native Histories and Cultures in K-12 Education. For this project, Dr. Meyer will take “an explicitly anti-racist, community-engaged policy research agenda” and work in collaboration with local Indigenous communities and educators to develop policy recommendations for the teaching of Michigan’s local Indigenous histories in K–12 schools.
