Andries Coetzee, Judith T. Irvine Collegiate Professor of Linguistics, was recently named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The 2025 class of fellows consists of 449 scholars “whose efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications in service to society have distinguished them among their peers and colleagues”.
Professor Coetzee was noted “for contributions to phonology and phonetics, distinguished service to the linguistics research community, and for the furthering of U.S.-Africa academic relations”.
The AAAS is the world’s largest general scientific society. Professor Coetzee is one of 15 U-M faculty members named as fellows this year.
