Andries Coetzee

Andries Coetzee visited the University of Georgia (UGA) on April 10. In addition to meeting with members of the UGA linguistics community, he also gave three presentations during his visit:

  • UGA Fieldwork Group: Doing Phonetic Fieldwork
  • Linguistics Colloquium: Language, Place and Identity in Post-Colonial Societies: Three Case Studies from Afrikaans
  • Broader UGA community: Language Rights in Post-Colonial Societies: A Comparison between South Africa and the USA

The last of these three talks is based on the current offering of LING 780 (Language in Post-Colonial Societies), co-taught by Andries and Jessi Grieser. This talk was aimed at a broader audience, and drew participants from the Departments of Linguistics and Romance Languages, but also from other units at UGA, such as Education and History.
