effective Fall 2019
the Department of Film, Television, and Media major requires a minimum of 32 credit hours. A Grade of C- or better must be achieved in any course taken to satisfy the FTVM major requirements. With the exception of those cross-listed classes noted above, other film, video, and television courses offered outside of FTVM will be considered for elective credit on a case-by-case basis. Students should consult with their FTVM advisor before taking such a course with the intention of using it to fulfill the FTVM elective requirement.

Some Important Tips for Majors Re: Courses
- Plan to meet with an advisor every term to discuss your course elections.
- Be aware that some required core courses are offered only once per year, and not every term.
- Select courses carefully, as not all courses outside of FTVM will fulfill requirements for the FTVM major. Courses outside the FTVM unit will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Be aware that the FTVM Department does not require cognates from outside the unit and encourages students to take courses from the offerings within FTVM.
- Achieve a grade of C- or better in any course taken to satisfy the major requirements.
- Remember that courses taken pass/fail cannot count towards the FTVM major.
- AVOID TAKING MORE THAN ONE PRODUCTION OR WRITING CLASS IN ANY PARTICULAR SEMESTER (advised by FTVM faculty).
FTVM Waitlist Policy
DURING REGISTRATION
During the Registration period, students are automatically issued overrides as seats become available
An override is not a guaranteed seat. The student must register for the course via Wolverine Access
Overrides expire after one business day (unless otherwise noted)
If the permission to enroll is not used within this timeframe, the next student on the waitlist will receive a permission.
Students still on the waitlist may receive permission to register from the instructor if they are willing to increase class capacity.
AFTER CLASSES BEGIN
One week after classes begin, students who wish to obtain an override must get permission from the instructor of the course.
The Department of Film, Television, and Media (FTVM) majors will be given preference on the waitlist over non-FTVM students.
Waitlist priority will be at the discretion of the instructor.
If a student does not use the class permission before it expires, the next student chosen by the instructor will be given permission.
It is critical that students attend classes from the beginning of the term. The department may drop a student from a course if the student does not attend the first course meeting. If a student plans to miss the first course meeting, arrangements must be APPROVED by the instructor in ADVANCE.
