Scholarship Process and Guidelines
The John H. and Patricia W. MitchelI Scholarship Fund was established in 2019 through a generous gift from the Patricia W. Mitchell Trusts. The scholarship, which honors the legacy of Columbia Pictures Television Founder John H. Mitchell and his wife, Patricia Mitchell, is designed to support and prepare current and future generations of undergraduate students to become ethical and responsible media professionals and leaders. This need-based scholarship annually supports a new cohort of six exceptionally promising full-time students who are pursuing a major or minor in the Department of Film, Television, and Media (FTVM). Recipients of this prestigious scholarship will be known as “Mitchell Scholars.”
In addition to receiving financial support for one academic year, Mitchell Scholars receive the following benefits:
- Invitations to meet with FTVM guest speakers and visiting scholars
- Invitations to all Mitchell-funded programming outside the classroom, such as panels, seminars, and the John H. Mitchell Critical Conversations, the signature FTVM speaker series
- Invitations to professional development events
