On October 14, 2022, Vincent Longo gave a talk titled, “Open-Source Archives: Mitigating and Harnessing Archival Obstacles to Promote Use,” at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. The presentation was a part of a capstone event for Projecting Knowledge: The Magic Lantern as a Tool for Mediated Science Communication in the Netherlands, 1880-1940, a multiyear research project on the cultural history of lantern slide projection by academics and scientists, funded by the Dutch Research Council. Longo was one of three scholars from American universities invited to give a talk and provide feedback on the research project's findings and preliminary take-aways. His talk argued for the use of layered and multi-navigational digital publications for historical, archivally-based projects, and provided strategies for engaging students in archival research and the creation of multimedia projects.
