Students who do not have at least a C or above in each prerequisite course will not be allowed to declare this major. Â Students who are not eligible to declare are strongly encouraged to meet with their LSA advisor as soon as possible to discuss other major plans. Students may repeat the prerequisite courses if a C grade or better is not earned.
If a student is not eligible to declare the Communication and Media major, coursework in Communication and Media is still extremely beneficial and may count toward overall bachelor's degree requirements.
- Comm 101: The Mass Media may be used as social science (SS) distribution credit (if it is not being used toward the major)
- Comm 102: Media Processes and Effects may be used as social science (SS) distribution credit (if it is not being used toward the major)
- Comm 221: Quantitative Skills for Communication and Media may be used as social science (SS) distribution credit (if it is not being used toward the major)
- Comm 222: Media Analysis: Concepts and Methods may be used as social science (SS) distribution credit (if it is not being used toward the major)
- Comm 221 fulfills the Quantitative Reasoning (QR) requirementÂ
Note: Majors may use Comm 221 for the QR requirement - Comm 251: Understanding Media Industries, Comm 261: Views on the News: What Shapes Our Media Content, and Comm 281: Media Psychology may be used as social science distribution if not being used toward the Communication and Media major.
