About the Event
The Department of Communication and Media hosts a commencement ceremony each year at the end of the winter term. This ceremony takes place on the Friday before the university-wide ceremony. University academic calendars can be found on the U-M Registrar’s website for reference.
During the ceremony, students will have their names read and will walk across the stage. Students do not receive their diplomas at this ceremony; diplomas will be mailed by the Office of the Registrar to students’ permanent addresses. The ceremony lasts for approximately 1.5 hours.
Ticket information for the department ceremony is sent to candidates for graduation in January. In order to participate in the ceremony, students must have a graduation date from the previous fall term through the following summer term. Seating for the event is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Students are limited to a maximum of four guest tickets. The department cannot facilitate requests for additional tickets.

Graduation Eligibility
The graduation application process should begin the semester prior to your anticipated graduation. To graduate, students should follow the steps outlined on the Newnan Advising website.
How to Request a Communication and Media Major Release
A major release (also called a senior release) can be requested from the Department of Communication and Media without an advising appointment. To request a major release, graduating students should fill out the department’s Major Release Request Form, and will receive an email when their release has been submitted.
