The Bodies, Identities, Intimacies, and Technologies (BIIT) Lab critically explores identities such as race, gender, and sexuality; intimacies with others and our devices; technologies including wearable devices, social media, AI, and dating apps; bodies and embodiment; and intersections therein.
Led by Dr. Apryl Williams, the BIIT Lab is a community of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students from across the University of Michigan, including Communication and Media, Digital Studies, The School of Information, and Psychology.
The lab is currently engaged in research related to identity, perceived attractiveness, and online dating outcomes, as well as the impact of algorithms, AI, and data transparency on user experience with the Internet of Bodies and wearable technologies.

We are open to students across disciplines who employ critical approaches, design, and methods in their work or those who intend to learn with us.
