Communication and Media PhD candidate Audrey Halversen was recently quoted in a CNN article titled, "This year, the Trump administration found its voice, and it’s all memes and ragebait." The article outlines the ways the Trump administration has used memes and ragebait and the effects this communication style may be having on the political landscape.

Halversen is quoted, "He is not just latching onto things his base supports, but latching on to things that he knows will anger the other side. Which then, of course, makes these posts gain a lot of attention." She then goes on to say that this communication style "could be an attempt to kill people’s information ecosystem with just so much slop," and that there's a case to be made that it's being used in an attempt to overwhelm people and cause them to disengage with politics entirely.
