Professor Devon Powers discusses how Donald Trump may have affected the song of the summer in new WIRED article
Professor of Communication and Media Devon Powers was recently quoted in WIRED. The article, titled "The Song of the Summer Is Dead," considers ways that music and the "song of the summer" phenomenon may reflect the current cultural and political state of the United States.
In it, Powers argues that the lack of a 2025 song of the summer might have something to do with Donald Trump, and more specifically in the way he's affecting the dominant culture. She's quoted, “There was a lot of discussion towards the end of the election season and right after Trump got elected about did country music sort of predict Trump. And I think that there is something to that. There are now more conservative touch points in culture that people can’t really ignore the way that they were before.”
