Dr. Josh Pasek, professor of Communication and Media and Political Science, was recently quoted in an article for WXYZ Detroit. The article, "Michigan candidates make final push as Election Day nears," discusses various candidates' campaigning efforts in the final days before midterm elections.
Pasek argues that the election results may be determined more by voter turnout than the candidates' abilities to persuade voters. "The real functioning underlying question is who's gonna make it to the polls," he says.
He goes on to say that it's likely many voters have already made up their minds about who to vote for, making turnout the deciding factor. "... the question is, can Democrats turn out the people they wanna turn out? Can Republicans turn out the people they wanna turn out? And, depending on how that works out, we'll see how things go."
