Associate Professor of Communication and Media Cara Wallis recently gave two invited talks about her book, Social Media and Ordinary Life: Affect, Ethics, and Aspiration in Contemporary China (NYU Press, 2025).

On January 26, she spoke at the Ivan L. Preston Research Colloquium sponsored by the University of Wisconsin–Madison's School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Then, on January 28, she spoke as part of the Digital Asia Speaker Series co-sponsored by the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois–Chicago.

Social Media and Ordinary Life offers an ethnography of how digital media infrastructures and platforms are woven into the rhythms of ordinary, everyday life among four differently marginalized groups in China.
