Please note:

UMMAA is currently (as of December 2024) experiencing an unusually large number of requests for access to collections. As a result, requests relating to NAGPRA will be prioritized. Please be patient. We will respond to your request as soon as we can. If you need to access collections of any kind, you must submit your request via this request form.

UMMAA Mission Statement: The University of Michigan Museum of Anthropological Archaeology (UMMAA) is dedicated to original research on humanity's past, to the curation of world-class collections, and to sharing our knowledge with the public. We are further committed to educating undergraduates about human diversity, and training graduate students to become anthropological archaeologists.

UMMAA Vision Statement: The University of Michigan Museum of Anthropological Archaeology (UMMAA) aims to make archaeology a force for social good and positive change in the world at large and in our local communities. Its curators, students, and staff envision a world where archaeological data are employed to help meet future challenges, both local and global, to the benefit of all members of society.

The Museum of Anthropological Archaeology is an international leader in research and student training. Our research collections—which include materials from many parts of the New and Old Worlds—support undergraduate and graduate education, and a portion is displayed in the University of Michigan Museum of Natural History. This website contains information about faculty research, the Museum's organization, and selected images from field work and collections.
