Collections:  The Collections Managers at the University of Michigan Museum of Anthropological Archaeology (UMMAA) typically hire one or two students at the start of the semester, advertising the positions at the end of the previous semester with the Anthropology department and the Undergraduate Museum Studies program first, and with the general Student Opportunities board if necessary. If you would like to be contacted about available positions and are not a part of either Anthropology or Museum Studies, email the Collections Managers (ummaa-collection-mgr@umich.edu) and they will try to include you with the first email group.

The Collections Managers do not accept volunteers or other unpaid work in the Museum. This choice is to promote equity in the fields of Museology and Archaeology. They have, in the past, accepted requests to host internships for scholastic credit.

You are welcome to access UMMAA’s collections for research, including supporting class projects, archival research for essays and projects and personal work. We also encourage students to conduct object research relating to undergraduate theses. Collections Managers can only guide you through accessing the collections and their documentation, and do not generate projects for you. Additionally, successful students will have a faculty member or advisor helping them to think through the academic questions of their research.

The collections managers are happy to discuss museum career paths and options. You may contact them at: ummaa-collection-mgr@umich.edu.
