Prerequisites
Two Economics courses
ECO 102: Principles of Economics II transfers as ECON 101: Principle Econ I for 3 credits
ECO 101: Principles of Economics I transfers as ECON 102: Principle Econ II for 3 credits
Calculus
No equivalent course for Calculus I. You have two options.
Option 1: MAT 172 at Wayne transfers as MATH 116: Calculus II which will fulfill the prerequisite. You will have to take MAT 171 before 172 which means taking 2 calculus classes.
Option 2: Wait and take MATH 115 after you transfer.
What you will have to complete after you transfer to complete the Economics major.
30 or 34 credits to include the following:
Calculus Prerequisite: MATH 115: Calculus I if you do not have equivalent credit for a UM calculus class.
Core Economic Theory: 2 courses
Core Statistics and Econometrics: 2 courses
Electives: 15 credits
Sample 2-year Completion Pathway
Semester 1: 300 level elective (3 credits), STATS 206 or 250 (4 credits), MATH 115 (4credits) if necessary.
Completing General Degree Requirements as an Economics Major
In addition to completing the requirements for the Economics major you will need to complete a total of 120 credits and the General Degree Requirements. Transfer credit can count for all General Degree Requirements.
Courses that transfer with the U-M subject ECON cannot be used for Area Distribution for Economics majors. Therefore, WCCC’s ECON 101, 102 and 272 cannot be used to fulfill social science distribution as they are listed on the General Degree Requirement Transfer Guide.
Quantitative Reasoning Requirement (QR). Multiple courses required for the Economics major will fulfill QR so you do not plan to complete anything outside of the major for this requirement.
