All financial aid for transfer students is based on demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and is available through the Office of Financial Aid and the LSA Scholarship Office. Who is Eligible for Financial Aid?

Michigan Residents

For eligible Michigan residents, the university has a long-standing commitment to meet the demonstrated financial need as determined by the difference between the cost of attendance and your expected family contribution. You may also be eligible for the U-M Go Blue Guarantee program, which offers free tuition to students with family incomes under $75,000 with certain asset limits.

Native Students

The Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver program, authorized by the State of Michigan, waives the tuition costs for eligible Native Americans in the state's public community colleges and universities, including U-M. For more information, go to the Michigan Indian Tuition Waiver website.

Undocumented and DACAmented Students

U-M’s goal is to help undocumented and DACAmented students find the financial support they need to be successful at the University of Michigan. There is limited need-based financial aid for undergraduate undocumented students who qualify for in-state tuition at U-M. For more information, go the Michigan Undocumented Students website.

Military Veterans

Military veterans and active duty service members qualify for in-state residency for tuition purposes as long as they did not receive a dishonorable discharge. Veterans may receive financial aid in addition to any GI Benefits they receive to pay for the cost of tuition, room, food, books, and fees. For more information go to Veterans and Military Services.

Domestic Non-Resident Students

What Scholarships Does LSA Offer Transfer Students?

LSA provides support to eligible undergraduate transfer students admitted in either the Fall or Winter Semester.

Two-Year Renewable Scholarships 

These scholarships are for in-state and out-of-state community college transfers. For students first transferring into the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, our Two-Year Renewable Scholarship can help provide a smooth transition. Transfer students receive awards of up to $15,000 for in-state students and up to $25,000 for out-of-state students per year, and they are renewable for two years of undergraduate study.

The LSA Scholarship Office also offers scholarships for study abroad, internships, and spring/summer course work.

Please note: Your financial aid award will most likely change. Sometimes students assume that they will receive the same dollar amount of financial aid at U-M as they did at their previous college, but this is most often not the case. Financial aid awards at U-M are based on the cost of attendance and your financial need.
