Summary

Fabian Pfeffer taught a single section of SOC 221, "Social Inequality" in the winter semester of 2017 as his first class ever at the University of Michigan. He included some creative learning opportunities for his students with the use of Gradecraft and other experiential and self-directed learning techniques. We talked about his approach to course design in a recent interview.

SOC 221 Choice Assignments (pdf)

Students were able to choose as many assignments as they liked and needed to accomplish their learning and grade goals, but at least two were required (one collaboration and one experiential assignment).

One of Pfeffer's choice assignments involved participating in a workshop that simulates the experience of poverty.
