Rebecca D. Christensen

Rebecca Christensen is the Director of Project Community and Lecturer III in the Department of Sociology. She is the primary instructor of the Project Community courses, and has worked with over 20 partners in Southeast Michigan. She is a student-centered educator and practitioner that is passionate about providing teaching and learning opportunities that are centered upon community engagement, intergroup relations, and social justice education. She is committed to building mutually beneficial community partnerships, and creating equitable, inclusive, and compassionate classroom environments. She is a recipient of the U-M LSA Individual Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education (2024) and AAC&U K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award (2015). She is currently a co-organizer for the American Sociological Association (ASA) Community for Community Engaged Scholars and Teachers (CEST).
