Assistant Professor
About
I am an Assistant Professor of Sociology at UM. A comparative historical sociologist, my research focuses on the intersection of the dynamics of power in the workplace and the cultural meaning of labor.
My first book, The Moral Economy of Care: Work and Power in the American Hospital, is forthcoming from Stanford University Press. The book is a historical account of how moral definitions of care have shaped how and when hospital workers have exercised power at work. The book examines 70 years of conflict and debate over striking and other contentious practices in California hospitals. My next project examines the intersection of disease and the political economy of healthcare work, focusing on the AIDS and COVID crises.
I regularly teach Introduction to Sociology at Michigan, as well as courses in social movement studies, the sociology of work, and qualitative research methods.
Forthcoming Fall 2026: The Moral Economy of Care: Work and Power in the American Hospital.
