About
Matthew Sullivan is a first-generation, non-traditional college graduate who earned his PhD in Sociology in 2018. He co-founded the Sociology Opportunities for Undergraduate Leadership (SOUL) Program, a success program for first-generation college students in Sociology, for which he received the 2023 Individual Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education. His research focuses on how first-generation students’ relationships with their families evolve as they attend elite universities. He brings personal experience and deep passion to his work with first-generation students, aiming to foster not only their academic and career success but also their personal wellbeing while attending an elite institution. I also enjoy gardening, lacto-fermentation preservation/pickling, and making hot sauce.
