About
Jarron Long is a second-year doctoral student, broadly interested in a historically-informed sociology of knowledge, politics, and organizations. In his research, he explores how facts, figures, and theories are used and misused in efforts to resolve social problems. One ongoing project investigates the roles of organizations designed to supply U.S. public officials with information and ideas during the 1960s, when major changes to domestic policy were being considered as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society agenda. Another, in collaboration with Professor Erin Cech, draws on novel survey and interview data to examine the varied explanations that Americans give of social inequalities in STEM fields and professions.
Outside of sociology, Jarron is a proud Chicagoan and a longtime fan of jazz music, Marvel comics, and classic films.
