About
Hien graduated from Harvard College (class of 2024), double-majoring in Sociology and East Asian Studies. As an undergraduate, she wrote her honors thesis on how Vietnamese marriage migrants navigate the aftermath of their divorces, exploring how their post-divorce socio-economic trajectories are mediated and constrained by the South Korean state's gendered citizenship-making process. For her doctoral study, she hopes to learn about how people go about achieving their desired ways of life, looking particularly at how people make sense of their economic decisions drawing on existing collective, cultural beliefs, in the context of late-socialist Vietnam. Hien was born and grew up in Vietnam, and considers herself an avid reader, traveler and appreciator of life.
